This month I’m taking part in a four week summer school all about pattern design. I’m really enjoying it so far, and
getting into the second brief. Before that’s done though, I wanted to share a bit
here about the first brief and my design for that, as well as what I’m
learning.
What I most appreciate about the summer school
is the community. There is a very active facebook group for all the

A year ago I started drawing little pictures for my daughter featuring her favourite stuffed animal - a white bunny called Babo with big floppy ears. The pictures showed her bunny doing everyday things around the house - working in the kitchen, picking flowers outside, going for a walk in the rain. Slowly a story started to evolve and I drew a few more pictures to fill in the blanks, until I hadKarinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05392282327664115220noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18444793184025408.post-23953462140672383502016-07-10T14:06:00.000+02:002016-07-10T14:06:05.176+02:00Honey badger tutorial for sew a softie day

A play mat is something you only need for a short period of time, and its also something that takes up quite a bit of space. Play mats can be quite garish, so I never had one with my first daughter. With the second, however, I decided I wanted to make one (maybe mostly as an excuse to get some of my fabric printed). This tutorial will walk you through the process of "re-upholstering" a play mat.Karinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05392282327664115220noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18444793184025408.post-70205148197881962282016-06-23T15:01:00.003+02:002016-06-25T21:03:20.315+02:00Location and creating
I recently listened to a conversation between Kate O'Sullivan and Dan Thompson on the A Playful Day podcast. As I was listening to their discussion
about connecting your art to the place where you live, I thought
about how my own making and creating relates to my location. At
first I thought it wasn't relevant. I’m not really involved in any local craft groups,
although I’m aware of them: Karinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05392282327664115220noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18444793184025408.post-64226962389514429042016-06-03T20:13:00.000+02:002016-06-03T20:13:59.949+02:00a mini felt tea cup tutorialMy daughter has started serving me tea in little tea cups. Since she doesn't have any real cups she uses duplo blocks. Yesterday I had my box of felt out and decided it was time for some "real" tea cups.
Here is a mini tutorial of how I made them.
Step 1: Draw a tea cup shape, cut it out and use it as a template to cut out four felt tea cups, two in white and two in the colour Karinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05392282327664115220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18444793184025408.post-75623942967794763512016-03-01T18:05:00.000+01:002016-03-01T18:05:25.589+01:00Introducing Honey BadgerLast week I spent all my free time pattern drafting, cutting, revising and sewing. When I get inspired by a project I often feel like I'm riding a wave of creativity and, knowing that it will eventually ebb, I tend to put all my thoughts into the one thing. I'm very happy with the final product, which is a stuffed animal called Honey Badger.
The idea to make honey badger came from a FacebookKarinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05392282327664115220noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18444793184025408.post-78608371149328169872015-12-09T18:16:00.002+01:002015-12-09T18:16:45.222+01:00sew a doll's dress from an old t-shirt
We recently had a doll visiting for a few days, and as a thank you to the owner, a four-year-old girl who loves blue at the moment, I decided to sew a quick dress for the doll.
I've created slopers for making doll's clothes before, and its a simple way to create a pattern and ensure a good fit. With a sloper made for the body and the sleeve, I created a pattern from some scrap paper. A few months ago on instagram I posted a picture of some fabric covered blocks I made for my daughter. Here is a picture tutorial of how I made the blocks. I used an old greengate placemat that I had kept, hoping I could make something with the beautiful matching fabric. And the blocks I've actually had since I was 13, dragging them across various continents in the hope that some day I would getKarinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05392282327664115220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18444793184025408.post-49693348412235566762015-10-07T14:13:00.001+02:002015-10-07T14:13:53.222+02:00custom shower curtainMy sister asked me to design a shower curtain for her, she chose a design I already had (these purple hydrangeas) and said she'd like them in red. I sell shower curtains in my society6 shop, so I changed the colours, ran them by her, changed them some more, created a humongous file (the shower curtain measures 71x74 inches, so the file is pretty big!) and just uploaded it to my shop.
